Head of Composites Laboratory – Aerosud
Gertrude Makgatho is the head of composite laboratory at Areosud Aviation. She joined the company in August 2017. After receiving her 1st degree in chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology 2009, she worked in an organic laboratory at the same institution for 2 years specialising in organic synthesis. She later obtained her second degree in Polymer Technology in 2013. That same year, she joined the centre for nanostructured materials at CSIR as a technician. A year later, she was promoted to manage the polymer characterization laboratory where she specialized in polymer processing and characterization. She is also a seasoned researcher, with published work in various scientific journals. She has also presented in various conferences and as an invited guest including the Perkin Elmer in tour held in 2017. In 2018, Gertrude obtained her Masters degree in Polymer technology (Cum Laude) from Tshwane University of Technology. The title of her dissertation being: Thermal degradation and flame retardancy mechanism of polylactide bionananocomposites using hyphenated system and i-cone calorimeter.
